History of Pashto Department

The faculty of Literature and Human Sciences is one the six faculties in Laghman University. This faculty has four departments, from which Pashto Language and literature department was established in (1392) Persian calendar. Yet, the mentioned department has offered eight terms of graduates to serve the society. The following is the description:

  1. In 1396, 47 graduates including (8) Female and (39) Male students.
  2. In 1397, 88 graduates including (5) Female and (83) Male students.
  3. In 1398, 69 graduates including (3) Female and (66) Male students.
  4. In 1399, 88 graduates including Male students only.
  5. In 1400, 63 graduates including (5) Female and (58) Male students.
  6. In 1401, 72 graduates including (4) Female and (68) Male students.
  7. In 1402, 60 graduates including Male students only.
  8. In 1403, 42 graduates including Male students only.

Now, in 1403 Persian calendar, Pashto department has totally (222) students. The following is the description:

Pashto Department has seven formal and two contractual instructors, as one instructor is busy to obtain his doctorate degree, now, in 1403, the teaching affairs is carried on by six formal and two contractual instructors. The following is the introduction of the formal instructors:

Vision and Mission

Vision:

The Pashto Department of the Faculty of Literature and Social Sciences at Laghman University aims to take decisive steps in the future for the advancement of Pashto language and literature and to present qualified personnel to society for service, in an Islamic, patriotic, and Pashto spirit. Likewise, considering the conditions, it intends to divide this department into two departments, one for the Pashto language and the other for Pashto literature. In addition to focusing on capacity building, the Pashto Department highly emphasizes the implementation of research projects, which will help fill the existing gaps in Pashto literature as much as possible.

Mission:

 The Pashto Language and Literature Department aims to manage the departments of linguistics and literature in such a way that its curriculum aligns with higher education standards and simultaneously fosters academic initiatives. This mission is based on the commitment we have to our God, our homeland, and our system.
