History of the Faculty of Sharia

Laghman University was established in 2010 (1389 AH Solar) with two faculties to meet the educational needs of the region. Over time, and in response to the growing academic and societal needs, additional faculties and academic departments have been established in accordance with the approval and assessment of the Ministry of Higher Education.

Following the end of the occupation and the beginning of the new administration, and under the special attention of the Leader of the Faithful (Amir al-Mu'minin), may Allah preserve him, it was decided that Faculties of Sharia should be established in all provincial public universities where such faculties did not previously exist. Accordingly, based on Official Letter No. 35 dated 2/2/1444 AH issued by the Ministry of Higher Education, the Faculty of Sharia was established at Laghman University.

In accordance with the decision of the Ministry of Higher Education, Sheikh Zahidullah Haqqani was appointed as the Dean of the Faculty. The Faculty currently consists of two degree-awarding departments—Islamic Studies and Fiqh and Law—and one non-degree department, the Department of Islamic Culture.

The Faculty's two degree-awarding departments are staffed by twelve academic members. Based on the decisions of Laghman University and the Ministry of Higher Education, Pohanyar Mufti Samiullah Amini was appointed as Head of the Department of Islamic Studies, while Pohanyar Mohammad Qasem Niazi was appointed as Head of the Department of Fiqh and Law.

The Department of Islamic Culture, a non-degree department responsible for the religious and intellectual
